On behalf of the ICDL 2017 organising committee, and everyone here at The University of Manchester, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 19th IEEE International Conference on Dielectric Liquids, 25th – 29th June 2017.
ICDL is a triennial event, and we are honoured to host this 19th edition here at The University of Manchester. The conference aims to encourage the exchange and discussion of ideas, focussing on results and practical experience of properties, dielectric phenomena and applications of insulating liquids. The University of Manchester has great tradition in Electrical Engineering and we are proud to add this conference to our list of achievements.
Manchester itself is known as a city with history, passion, and character. Manchester industrialised at the turn of the 19th century, quickly establishing itself as the place for textile manufacture, and coming to be named ‘Cottonopolis’. This rapid development bore a requirement for skilled workers, and the founding of The University of Manchester in 1824 owes itself to this demand. Manchester has been famed for having an innovative spirit ever since. Manchester is also famous for being home to two of the world’s biggest football clubs (Manchester City and Manchester United), as well as for being a hotbed of musical talent.
I hope that this conference will be a chance for all attendees to further their knowledge in this field, and to get to meet likeminded people, giving way to new friendships and potential collaborations. Please enjoy your stay in Manchester, and see the sites if possible.
Thank you for your attendance and for helping to make ICDL 2017 a successful event!

International Conference on Dielectric Liquids (ICDL 2017), fully sponsored by the Dielectric and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), is a research-oriented conference focused on the exchange and discussion of ideas, results and practical experience of properties, dielectric phenomena and applications of insulating liquids. It addresses physicists, chemists, material scientists and electrical engineers who are engaged in the research and practical applications of such materials.
ICDL had previously been held in a number of countries across the globe, which are listed in the table below.
